Summer's Complacency

I’ve been faking

but complacency’s fading latency is blatantly shaking me.
These cold cascading seconds trickle off the clock that faces me.
its hands strangle me, choke me and break me,
while rhythmic ticks and tocks sedate me.
It’s the reason that I ask you to wake me
before I forsake these dreams.
The gleam in my eyes
is turning into a glaze, it seems…

These chains bind me to stagnancy
and when I attempt to break the shackles
they rattle and laugh at me
It’s a disaster, this self-induced mastery
A slave to a state of being just breathing…

Just breathing.

And it’s a seething existence without persistence;
when listless wishing keeps us from going the distance.
So if you miss it or are met with resistance,
simply call for assistance.

We all need some reliance -
That’s the science.

So maybe a good friend holds the key to free me.
to see me through the debris of a shattering defeat.

Nothing will beat me
Nothing will keep these feet from advancing fleetly
allowing me to do more than just coast by
like a ghost, non-descendent of the Most-High

Please wake me before I forsake these dreams.
This gleam in my eyes is turning into a glaze, it seems.
But I’ll break from these seams and hope for a better day,
because when I turn the corner, I know I’ll find another way.
