Fairytale

I've never been the princess in the fairy tale,
never the girl at the top of the stairs.
I've never had the ideal body,
no flawless skin or perfect hair.
I don't have a trust fund,
and I don't have a silver spoon.
I grew up in the real world,
forced to grow up way too soon.
I've had to fight for what I love,
I've had to fight just to live.
I've had to stand my ground
and fight for what I believe in.
All that I ever wanted
was that fairy tale life,
for all my wishes to come true,
for a white horse to bring my knight.
But everything I'm not
is nothing that you want.
And I go to bed at night
so happy with my life.
You love my jeans and my tee shirt,
you love my messy hair,
and you'll always be there to catch me
when I fall down those stairs.
Because everything I am
is everything you love.
You've showed me that imperfections
are nothing to be ashamed of.
My life has never been a fairy tale,
though I thought I wanted it to be.
True love is loving imperfections,
and that's alright with me.
