You know,
I used to do this very well-
I could make you feel the bark of the tree,
Or make you hear the conversations
Of the jealous, little schoolgirls-
Their jittery laughter melting into the caramel colored walls.

There was a point in time,
Quite a while ago, when I knew this very well.
I knew what people wanted to hear.
They could taste the snack I had for dinner
Right before I sat down.

I would make some of this, I knew,
But now I have to look another way-
I need to learn new words,
So I can teach people how to smell,
How to listen, and
How to see again.
