She Can't, She Can't

Perfectly happy
just for a moment
it then passes with the wind
she returns to the feeling
of longing to escape
from her family and her friends

can't sleep can't eat
can't dance and laugh
can't run and kiss the sun
can't feel the breeze
can't toss her hair
she wishes not to be someone

wants to be with poeple
who don't know her well
wants to escape and be carefree
wants to forget her world
her person her life
and truth she wishes not to see

away from her head
away from her world
on the water she can dance
an escape from reality
new people new things
not afraid to take a chance

in and out of her mind
she drifts and dreams
in a dream she tries to stay
she can't hold on
it's receding and slipping
the fantasy's fading away

unlike your usual goodwill story
this one has no good end
and she longs so to be elsewhere
each time she slips
into one of her moods
her heart just simply tears

she wants to be
with people from her dream
with the same ideals as she
the ones who get away
to act unlike themselves
so they just don't have to see

the person that
people know them to be
the expectation's too tight
she can't breathe
just like them
they're together without a fight

some things are better
than others, though
and all things must come to an end
and wishing, wanting
in our own little stories
we must not depend

she can't she won't
she's unhappy forever
can't connect the real to the dream
can't combine the 2
to make it bearable
so she's washed into the human stream
