I know you’re taken and somehow
This is me not caring
These green eyes are not jealous
They are green with life
That’s their true color
These tears are not lies
Truth beauty love
These thoughts in my head
This is me telling you
Be a part of me instead
The candle burns my hand
As I shadow the light
I don’t want to see
I know moral implications
I’ve heard social injunctions
Manifestations of insecurity
Denial of faith in the clout of emotion
And the unwillingness to submit
To our better judgment
Our conscious objective
Not our logic but rather
The way we feel at the moment
Spontaneity with restrictions
Open the door and push me out
Because I’m too scared to do it on my own
And if you can’t
Then show me how
There has to be a way to do this without getting hurt
And even though I know there isn’t
Help me break the fall anyway
Because I so desperately just want to hold your hand
And all this still acquiescing
Many have trekked this trail
And paved the way
But I’m driving on a totally different road
Not one with stop signs
But one with no street signs at all
Be my map
I don’t need a key
Only if it’s the one that might lead to your heart
But honestly knowing what I know I fear
Someone already owns that key
So I smile and I keep driving
Until you press that key into my hand
And I unlock the door and jump out…
