What's Next to Come

We're playing in the sun,
Having lots of fun;
But now the day is almost done,
I wonder what's next to come;
I'm waiting for my sweetheart,
So we can walk in the park;
But now that it is dark,
We are far apart;
Because of a drunk driver,
Who was one of two survivors,
Drove into the night,
With us in his sight;
I hear lots of voices,
I hear lots of noises;
Could they be in my head?
Or could I be dead?
I see a light,
Wow! It's really bright;
Now I see a person, a face,
Who held me in their embrace;
I said, "I'm sorry,"
They said, "Don't worry,
It's not your fault,
That drunk driver didn't come to a halt,"
I looked around,
I saw a large bag on the ground;
As I look,
I wonder whose life the driver took;
For all it shows,
That one life will never know
What is next to come
And never come home;
For that one life will be apart
From its sweetheart.
