Vow

I watch as you set it down
The cold steel warm with your own blood
A smile rent your lips
As you said one word in pain

“I said I’d say goodbye”
So now I murmur words
“Don’t leave…don’t slip”
As you step into the rain

The water washes the warmth
From your frail body
So many years
So much suffering
Don’t give up now

Breathe
Please…know that I am here
I won’t let him start again
And that is my sacred vow

It’s not your time,
If anything, it’s mine
See the scars on my wrist?
You shouldn’t go…or let me come

Your body may be falling
But I won’t let you go
It’s my time, I will meet you there
As soon as I go numb
