Lying alone trying to forget
Heart filled with fear, hurt and regret
He's gone for good this time she's sure
He won't be back, can hurt her no more

wiping her eyes sore from his hand
Cut above her eye from his wedding band
Tonight he was more angry than he had been before
Called her a bitch, a slut and a whore

He'd been at the bar like he was every night
Came home lit and ready, looking to fight
Told her to take off her clothes and lay down
When she refused he threw her to the ground

But tonight was different, she was prepared
Knew what was coming so she wasn't scared
She pulled herself up, he thought she would run
Instead she reached behind her and pulled out the gun

Looking at her with a condescending glare
"Go 'head bitch shoot me, you wouldn't dare"
Broken bones and "falls" flashed through her mind
She knew what she had to do, knew it was time

Time to put an end to a life riddled with fear
"I am going to kill you, are we both clear?"
She held the gun against his sweaty head
Pulled the trigger, he was dead

Now she was free once and for all
Picked up the phone and made the call
Told the police what she had done
Said she'd be there, she wouldn't run

She'd rather live in prison for the rest of her life
Than live another day as a battered wife
