They say that angels don’t have free-will,
And, for this reason, angels do not learn;
Basked in omniscience, reasoning goes still --
Brilliant instinct serves the spirit in its turn.
Angels can’t yearn for their own perfection;
Gabriel trumpets but can’t hear a call
Or know acceptance or fear rejection,
And even Satan can’t regret his fall.
We have more choice than the angels, and yet
Each desire has a specific cost,
And salvation can be an “if”y bet,
And our immortal souls can end up lost.
Redemption is a hard-acquired skill,
But only we experience life’s thrill.
