All Hallow's Eve

Moonlight shown across the headstone
On the dreariest of all nights
Ravens recite the requiem
As the sorrow inside ignites
Alone in such poor company,
Death lurking beyond the shadows
Echoes of silence deafen me
On the evening of all hallows

Thousands of others strew the field
All but one had been left behind
No more than fading memories
On which the sun may never shine
The most beautiful epitaph
Stand at your head and I your feet
A solitary tear as I
Fall to my knees stricken with grief

Was the emotion between us
Felt too much and well too often
That the heavens tore you away
In hopes of being forgotten
Every hour I pray for death
To come out beyond the shadows
And escort me to my beloved
On the evening of all hallows
