I read your poem again tonight
Line for line
Trying to find the truth
In each little rhyme
Again you tell me one thing
Then turn and say another
How you feel I’m totally not sure
You said in your poem to me:
‘This time I'm willing to put my life on the line,
Because this time I want you to stay mine.’
When tonight you made it seem
Like you don’t honestly feel you could be with me
Why tell me these things
Only to turn your back on me
You were fine Saturday
But then we go our separate ways
And again the past repeats itself
You love me when you’re with me
But not as much when we’re apart
‘You captivate my every move,
I just wish I could still be with you.
You mean the world to me,’
These lines are not as they seem
Because you’re not really talking about me
I’m not the one you truly want
You know he is
I don’t captivate your every move
So why take a chance with me
Because your heart isn’t fully going to be in it
Your heart won’t fully be mine
For any amount of time
‘I would love to once again call you mine!’
If this were so
You’d know it true
You’d know that you want me to be the only one with you
While it seems sincere
And such a nice gesture
I’d rather you not have written it
Because it’s bittersweet
And when things don’t turn out the way your poem says
And you go back to him
It’ll always be there to remind me
Of the second time you made me think I had a true chance
Then fucked my heart over again
Yeah you’ll say you’re sorry like you already are
But you’ve said it to me a million times
You’re sorry isn’t getting you very far
