The spirit of the alchemist still lives
to bring fine polish out of baser things,
and, out of generosity, it gives
and, out of creativity’s joy, sings.
And yet within its studies it is locked
in a sublime seclusion, shut away
from shallow social pleasures and quite blocked
from all the fads and follies of its day.
The alchemist is suspect and occult,
possessed of knowledge unknown to most men
and, therefore, feared and shunned as a result
and misunderstood time and time again.
He doesn’t seek mere riches he can hold;
he quests for transformation, truth be told.
