Sitting in the darkness
The fear still in his eyes
No sound is heard from far away
Just the sound of cries
The tears of fear and pain
Hidden in his heart
You can see it in his eyes
I could tell just from the start
I knew one day he’d hurt himself
I could tell it in his eyes
Secrets of his life
The secrets kept inside
He didn’t have a lot of friends
And he was picked on all the time
His father always beat him
The bruises showed the crime
As he sits in the darkness waiting
To get the courage to end his life
He holds the gun within his hands
The gun which will end the strife
The silence takes him over
It’s going to his head
He’s lying under the covers
That lay upon his bed
His mind is finally decided
The gun is in his hand
If you really think hard…
Is this really a free land?
The racism and harassment
That people put up with everyday
Is it really a free land?
A land called the USA
This “free land” full of harassment
Has ended many lives
People kill themselves
With ropes, guns, and knives
But the life of this young boy
Will soon end with a gun
As he places it in his mouth
His life will soon be done
He pulls the trigger slowly
And his sister hears the boom
She runs so fast, quickly
Straight up to the room
She sees his bed with crimson blood
The gun still in his hand
There’s no more coming back now
To this stupid, fucking, “free land”
His classmates hear what happened
And feel sorrow in their heart
They claim to be his friend
”We were friends from the start”
These classmates who once hated him
And made fun of him all the time
Soon felt they knew him
After he committed this crime
But I’ll tell you this now
If they took the time to know him then
Maybe he’d still be here
Maybe all he needed was a friend
His eyes held the secrets
Which all came to him from this “free land”
If only we were truly free…
…Maybe that gun wouldn’t have ended up in his hand.
