The Seasons of Us

The last golden leaves fall from the tree
And this is the end of you and me
This is the autumn of our time together
Though I’d like to hold this moment forever

That last moment when you held me tight
Battling what would be a losing fight
As the rain of my tears fell all around
A shower of cries without any sound

Inevitably it came, and we both let go
The raindrops now falling as pure white snow
And all is now cold, encrusted in frost
Frozen in time are those moments we lost

The winter has arrived, our time is through
Though you love me, and I love you
We both knew that this day would come
Hearts and hands now blistered and numb

But wasn’t it worth it in the end?
Wasn’t it worth it, just to be my friend?
Wasn’t it worth all those times we shared?
To know that I was always there and cared

From out the grey sky comes a ray of sun
Maybe, my dear, we are not yet done
Spring is coming, and don’t you see
This is a new beginning for you and me

All of what was is now in the past
A fresh start has come for us at last
The bond between us can never sever
You and I will be friends forever

Dedicated to a very special friend of mine. You know who you are. We have
been through rough times, but we have a bond that is not so simply broken.
Though it’s cold outside, spring is here for us. I love you.
