Fairy Tale

If you never ask,
Then you’ll never know,
And that is how
This fairy tale goes…
Once upon a time,
Not far from here,
A broken heart shed
But one single tear.
For a dear friend was there
To comfort and console,
Yet hiding a secret
That he’d never show.
He loved her completely
And without any doubt,
She felt the same,
But the feelings never came out.
Too little, too late,
She’s getting married,
Yet still holding onto the love
That she’s always carried.
A terrible accident
Claims his life,
She gets a call
In the middle of the night.
Though he’s gone,
She hears his voice,
A depressing sound,
A saddening noise.
He said he’d watch over her
Throughout her life,
He only wished
That she’d been his wife.
With the click of the receiver
And the sound of a dial tone,
Her guardian angel
Hung up the phone.
He never asked,
She never knew,
Until it was too late,
For “I love you.”
