Paper Snowflakes

This is the story
of a six year-old girl,
stricken with Lukemia,
trying to conquer the world.
She wears a hat
everywhere she goes
she tries to hide it,
but through the pale face it shows.
Her chances to survive
are a million to one.
Six years old
and not having any fun.
She takes a piece of paper
and folds it in half
to make her mother a snowflake,
that will forever last.
She makes beautiful paper snowflakes
for her mother to keep
because someday they'll be
just what she needs.
"Look, Mom,
it's my art project from school,
I made you paper snowflakes,
aren't they cool?"
A little body
gets tired of fighting,
the tears inside
come out of hiding.
She made it through Christmas
and then she died.
A million tears
her mother cried.
The paper snowflakes
are a constant reminder
of how much
she was loved by her daughter.
As a new wave of tears
begins to flow,
she looks outside
at the falling snow.
"Mommy, today,
I finally turned seven.
The pretty snow for you
is my art project from Heaven."
