Amidst a field of broken dreams
Lies forbidden fruit
In wonders no one’s dared to touch
Or wanted to uproot.
Through all the dying branches
And the many empty fields
The only thing that’s kept its life,
To death it would not yield.
One taste has said to cure the blind
And cease the heart’s disease
To shake the nightmare from its host
And set the mind at ease
To give the gift of reason, passion,
Convert water to wine
Cause the season’s winds to change
With one taste from the vine.
So in my hands I held this treasure
And pondered if to taste
The fruit I found inside of Eden’s
Garden laid to waste.
If truth may come from what is said,
Then perhaps it could be
That since I am not blind,
It would cause me not to see?
And since my nights are empty,
Nightmares I would obtain?
Or since I have no need for wine,
Then wine would pour like rain?
I did not wish these things to come,
I wished for good instead
From the treasure in the garden
Of which all its’ beauties fled.
So I swallowed all my pride
And indulged in what I found
As I took a bite of forbidden fruit
I picked from holy ground
And in the sweetness of its’ taste
I promptly realized
That this Eden, although run down,
I shall come to idealize
For perfection’s not discovered
In the stream of crystalline
And prayers aren’t always answered
Where holy figures may convene
A night’s star can still be found
Within the mist of day
As I have found this cherished gem
In the garden of decay.
Inside the arms of Eden,
The only gift worth my pursuit
Amidst a field of broken dreams,
Lies my forbidden fruit.
