Lying next to you in bed,
Sometime after midnight,
feeling the summer air blowing through the screen,
just listening to you breathe.
studying the curve of your neck,
the faint spray of freckles on your nose,
the loose curl of hair that frames your face,
like seeing it all for the first time.
watching you sleep,
I'm finding new truth in all those worn-out clichés,
feeling like the only two people on Earth,
and wishing time would stand still,
and hoping tomorrow never comes.
searching for some word,
some perfect phrase,
to capture all of what i'm feeling for you.
wishing i could paint a picture to show you how i feel when you laugh,
wanting you to see what it's like to look into your eyes,
longing to find a way to catch the magic of your smile and give it back to
you.
Wanting all this,
and knowing that none of it is possible,
because all I can do is love you.
