Commited To You

It's not the way you love
I love.
You can't love a thing
I love.
I know that you can't love,
But I will love and I am lost.

Like peppermint;
My sweet commitment.
Lay me down like cold cement,
Smooth the edges I have bent
And slowly walk away.

And I'll admit,
My tears have hurt.
I spent these nights on full alert.
The candy lipstick drips like acid
From my favorite shirt.

And sometimes in the rain I swim
To hear the hymn
The raindrops make.
I listen now, but that's whats wrong.
I listen,
That's whats wrong.

And in the whitewashed widow's peak,
I taste the snow,
It tastes too sweet.
And I'll admit
I hear it fall
And I am Weak
Too weak.

But everything reminds me now--
The morning sun,
The mourning clouds.
They all tell stories of your face
And teach me how to lose.

Tell me you can't love.
I will listen.
I will hear.
But I will love
If you can't stop me.
I will listen.
I will love.

Not my treasure man--
My widow speaks.
And if she loved, I'd leave.
But I watch her lips
Stab tenderly.
I listen
And I'm lost.

She's perfect now;
She can't be had.
I know her secret,
Prove it false.
I listen to her lecture;
She has taught me
How to lose.
