Infinite Memories

I walked beyond the shadows cast;
The pier was wet with snow,
Whose whiteness hid the irony
Of those buried below.

Reflecting upon memories
Of a past that never runs
Into today, from yesterday
And how tomorrow never comes.

I watched the sun remind me
As the day escapes with it;
An hourglass can never guess the hour
Till it's tipped.

And aren't we as old as we
Remember yesterday?
I hoped that I could watch
The timeless waves disintegrate.

For a second I had lost myself;
A cemetery dream.
To take what we believe and
Make it equal what we mean.

I tried to sip the fountain
And to suffocate the past
But the day reminded mortal men
Like me, they will not last.

So try as much as I could hope
My demons had evoked
Mortality to surface,
Like a lump inside my throat.

Watching as the edges rolled
Like lions overseas.
Imprisoned by the waves
Of my infinite memories.
