The Photograph

a/n: i've posted this before, but it got erased, so i'm submitting
it again...

a fading old photograph
wrinkled and torn
and tears flooded her eyes
as she sat and she mourned
she remembered how
he would whisper sweet secrets in her ear
and he'd always tell her the things
that she needed to hear
she remembered how
she had broken down and cried
as he told her how sorry he was
and he hadn't meant to lie
she remembered how
after they would fight
he would embrace her
and hold her close at night
and as she looked at that old picture
of a single white rose
placed inside a combat boot
she held the memory close
remembering what he said
when he took that photograph
"this one was for you"
and she had looked at him funny
and then he gave a little laugh
"see, the boot symbolizes
how tough and strong you are
it shows how you have a wild side
and how you will go far
but the rose shows
that you are soft as well"
and with that
a single petal fell
and with those words
he snapped one more
just because that petal
hadn't been in the one before
and so now she looked down upon him
with tears in her eyes
as he lie there motionless
and she couldn't help but sigh
she took the picture
that he had taken just for her
and placed it in his coffin
to leave the things that were
