As you enter the room,
My heart rushes, I blush,
And I think of the times we could have.
My eyes follow you to the bar,
And you sit beside a woman
Who tosses her hair and laughs at everything you say.
I am tempted to leave,
But then you stand and tell her goodbye,
And you come say hello to me.
I smile back sheepishly,
And you sit opposite me,
Staring into my eyes.
We talk the night away,
And you ask me if I want to go with you,
I thought it over, and away I went.
When I arrived at your house,
We talked some more, watched T.V.,
And then we went to bed.
I woke early the next morning,
Got dressed and left you a note,
Saying how great of a time I had.
A week or so later, at the bar,
I see you walk in again.
I hadn’t talked to you since that night.
You take your place at the bar,
And talk to another girl.
I teared up at the sight of it.
You got up and gave her a hug,
Doing so your eyes locked mine,
And I saw the blood drain from your face.
I stand to leave, move to the door,
You call out my name across the room.
A hush overtakes the bar.
I turned around and looked at you,
Shook my head,
And went out the door.
As my blurred vision worsened,
I hear you breathing behind me
And I turn around.
You wiped the tears from my face,
And took me in your arms.
I felt the love you have for me.
You call upon a cab for us,
To take me to my home.
We ride in silence.
After you paid the driver,
You walk me to my apartment door.
I invite you in.
We talk about the time
That we never got to talk.
You said you looked for me.
As the sun goes down,
You say you must leave.
How sad that made me feel.
As I get up to open the door,
You handed me a piece of paper, kissed my cheek,
And down the stairs you went.
When I looked at the paper,
I gasp.
It falls to the floor.
On the paper I read three lines:
I’m married.
I’m sorry
I hope we stay friends.
