I Dreamed

I dreamed I was a bird,
My songs all filled with sorrow,
And while I sang, it hit me;
There is no such thing as tomorrow.

I dreamed I was a cloud,
Weeping in the darkened sky,
And while I wept, it hit me;
I don't have the strength to ask why.

I dreamed I was a steeple,
In me hung a bell,
And while it rang, it hit me;
Earth is the place we call hell.

I dreamed I was the eye of dawn,
Looking down on the world, asleep,
And while I looked, it hit me;
There's not one promise I can keep.

I dreamed I was hate,
Traveling shapeless in the night,
And while I went undefined, it hit me;
I don't have the courage to fight.

I dreamed I was an angel,
Guarding whoever that I could,
And while I guarded, it hit me;
I never do the things I should.

I dreamed I was a heart,
Surrounded by a wall,
And while I sat alone, it hit me;
I've never felt love at all.

I dreamed I was myself,
With a heart icy and cold,
And while it sat frozen, it hit me;
I do whatever I am told.

I dreamed I was a dream,
Being pushed aside at the break of dawn,
And while I was pushed, it hit me;
I'm just another helpless pawn.

I dreamed I was a snowflake,
Falling from above,
And while I fell, it hit me;
I kill everything I love.

I dreamed I was evil,
Stealing anything I couldn't take,
And while I hurt them, It hit me;
I was awake.
