Burning

Kneeling by the fire
The heat dances across my chest
I can smell my charred wood
A smell so strong my lungs feel weak
My inhalations are deep
And my mind is swimming
I can feel my soul burning
I can feel my stomach churning
My heart speaks to me
In words that only my mind
In its confused state can understand
'Back away from the fire
Back away before it's too late
Leave now or you will never return
Leave now and you will live to see another beam of daylight'
I hear my heart
I understand what it has said
Yet I can feel the warmth overwhelming me
Dulling my senses
Wind caressing my face
As I fall into darkness
Burning out of this life.
