Sometimes I get the feeling
That I am needed elsewhere
Not here exactly but maybe down the road
Or across the country
Across the world
I find myself taking longer walks
Walks down different paths
Taking me to different woods
Different towns
Different faces
I feel my heart pulling against my greatest attempts to stay home
Urging me to take three more steps out my door
I resist the urge to leave
I don't need adventure
All I need is a roof over my head
A warm fire close by
And a nice meal to end the day
I decide to stay home
After little deliberation on the subject
And instead decide to watch the sunset
And pretend I am on an adventure
Rather than leave my home
As I go to my porch
And stare out at the valley
Stretching out for miles in front of me
I wonder what lay beyond the mountains
That the sun is shrinking behind
Where does the sun go after it sets?
I put on my shoes
And walk down the ivy covered hill
Into the valley
And over the mountains
Where I hope to find
Where the sun goes
And
Whatever it is I am searching for.
