The gentle hues of summer were in the air,
But all I knew was that you weren’t there,
The sky closed in and the rain started to fall,
My mind was fuzzy from all the memories I tried to recall,
The storm hit with a force worse then before,
But all I could remember was how you walked out the door,
As the rain started to “tink” against the glass,
I felt like I was drowning in poison gas,
As the grass was plastered to the ground,
All I could do was try to go on the rebound,
The winds picked up and the storm blew hard,
But all that pain had left me scarred,
As lightning streaked across the sky,
I forced myself not to cry,
But when the thunder hit,
I knew I would never be able to make it,
The sky started to lighten as the clouds disappeared,
I realized I had fallen in love the one thing I truly feared,
The rain now fell softly on the flower petals,
You had died in honor and deserved so many medals,
The storm was violent but all in all it had finally given in,
I would have to hold all the memories of you within,
The sun came out and shone down on the world,
I knew it was you telling me my new life had uncurled,
The storm was for the better good,
But you had given you life; something I had never understood,
This storm was over and the clouds would pass,
And you had died; Private First class.
