The elusive crown will finally be mine,
As my dream is lived by and by,
We will toast with the finest of wine,
For the winner was our Little Guy,

He flew out of the gate,
And soared down the track,
And won by pure fate,
Way ahead of the rest of the pack,

The roses were won,
The crowd was on its feet,
No one knew what was going on,
What they had witnessed was a real treat,

The first race was done,
But two more were to come,
The hard part had finally begun,
But people were in awe of what he had become,

It didn’t matter if he lost,
He was still a people’s horse,
Not yet to be tossed,
But still he won the second jewel by sheer force,

Now people knew he was true,
A hero in his own right,
A champion through and through,
He could win any fight,

The third and finally race was here,
Would he strive to win again?,
The betters and gamblers were in fear,
He looked so tired as if he were in pain,

What would become of this race?,
The competition was stiff and all hopes looked grim,
He ran against challengers, who would set the pace,
They could increase their speed on just a whim,

As the post parade marched around,
He tossed his head,
And we knew trouble was abound,
But it was too late to stop as he took off instead,

He ran with the fury of a storm at his feet,
It was amazing to seem him,
As he ran beat for beat,
Now the chances he would lose were slim,

But soon the crowd looked grim,
The King came to challenge our Little Guy,
He was soon looking at his hind limb,
The King had passed him by,

The stands were hushed,
The only sound was the pounding of the hooves,
The people seemed so crushed,
But suddenly he started to make his moves,

He nose was even with the King’s flank,
Soon he would reach further and be neck and neck,
He was running like an armored tank,
This race was an amazing trek,

As the wire approached neither gave way,
They hurdled on faster then ever,
People were awed by the display,
And they knew that this race would live forever,

Because in the last seconds of running the King’s empire fell,
Our Little Guy had won the right to King’s old throne,
The noise in the stands began to swell,
As our Little Guy joined a class of his alone,

My dream was won but it ended there,
For the next day things went downhill,
As the trouble hit and made everyone aware,
The racing world seemed to stand still,

He had won his races with all his might,
He poured his life out,
To win each fight,
He was a champion and there was no doubt,

But the pain he felt was very real,
He had gone into the last race not fully healed,
The outcome was unreal,
As we looked at what the x-rays revealed,

It was a bone chip the fractured him,
He could never, not once again be raced,
For it had broken his limb,
He would have to give up his throne and be replaced

He was put down the next day,
The next real hero was gone,
People mourned the lose of the big beautiful bay,
The faces of millions were drawn.
