There was a man
Standing in a place where no man
Should ever stand
For the ground
On which this man stood
Was cursed
Lightning came to this place
Then thunder
Various storms of considerable might
In their own right
Made the man shiver with fear
Or was it simply from the cold of the new fallen snow?
From the power of the fear or cold
Whichever you prefer
The man noticed something in himself
That though part of him wanted to run and hide
Another wished to stay and feel the forces of nature
In all of their raw power
And then it happened
A pain so great it produced
A shriek
A tearing sound
A teardrop
All at once
The man convulsed
And fell to the ground
Gasping for air
He could feel it
Both sides warring
One with intent for freedom
One fearing the separation
One wished for nothing more than to explore the possibilities
Of the wondrous world around it
One wished nothing more than to find comfort
Quiet and safety like one would find in one's own home
No agreement was made
No truce was heard of
The gap between them grew
And then it was over
The separation complete
And they did look each other in the eyes
One looked on in disgust
For it saw the imperfections
It was once so close to
One looked on in utter sadness
As it's other half looked at it with such hatred
They each went their own ways
The first time
The last time
For something stopped them both
They felt a burning
And a sense of incompletion
Turning to face each other
Eyes full of tears
They embrace
And in a flash of light
Reveal the same man
Standing taller than he did before the separation
Before things became clear
Before he realized that what he needed was not separation
But simply a break from himself
A chance to see what might be
If he were not himself
If he gave into his desires
If he gave into his fears
He saw
He reacted
He became one from two
He became whole.
