Legs Go Still

The door was shut when I went up...
Now it’s not..

I sat alone
and suddenly my home rings
It’s not that loud
but it’s loud enough...

I run into the bedroom
Race to the white box attached to the wall
And find red lights flashing
Fear flushes its way throughout my body
As my jaw drops,
My mouth goes silent...
My arms go still

I tip toe trying not to drag my pants across the floor
creating a noise eliminating my silence,
I creep down toward the stairs... trying to get a reflection of the lower
level through a mirror above the entrance of my home....

But I see nothing, or at least not what I don’t want to see.....

Finally.. I get the courage to go all the way..
To the bottom of the stairs...

I walk cautiously and slowly
To find the dog asleep in its crate...
But the door....

Cracked opened.......
