Paint a picture in the sky
With graying clouds and butterflies.
Wait for the wind to brush it away—
It’s not important, anyway.

Cut the skin away, but you don’t bleed.
Paste on a smile for the world to see.
Do what you’re told; you know it’s right.
Give it all up without a fight.

Find the light within the moon,
Though you know you’ll lose it all too soon.
Taste the clouds that will never be;
Admire the colors you’ll never see.

Become the idol of your dreams,
Only to find it makes you feel so empty.
Live the life that makes you smile,
Just to figure out it wasn’t worth the while.
