She sits idly by knowing full well of what’s to come
This man that’s back in her life that once destroyed her
Is it denial? Or has she just gone numb?
Why did he really call? What is he really here for?
“I have missed you”, he said. “It’s so good to hear your voice.”
Hearing his voice is a reminder of the girl she used to be.
Closing her eyes she takes a deep breath and realizes she has a choice.
Her past feelings for him consumed her and she was no longer free.
The chains of their relationship have once again found their way home.
Around her wrists and through her heart they once again reside.
She meanders through the house, whishing she wasn’t alone.
Reflecting for a moment all the devastating times he lied.
As the conversation grows longer, they slowly say, “Good-bye.”
She looks in the mirror at the woman she has finally become
Remembering all the horrible feelings she gradually begins to cry.
The lies, the pain, the tears, the nights were not easy to overcome.
Suddenly she stops crying and looks herself in the eyes.
Just three years ago, it seemed as if she were just a child.
Starting to see through her tears; this man is no longer worth her cries.
She reaches for the phone, for that memorized number to be dialed.
She sits frozen like a deer in the headlights.
Listening for the anticipated, “hello”
“You can’t do this, you have no right!
I was finally over you! How could you get so low?”
Throwing the phone against the wall she crumbles to her knees
Screaming and pissed that she could not say it
She picks up an old photo album she sees
The pages crackle with every turn, and there the photos sit.
Animosity fills within her, and her tears melt away
Tearing each and every picture from the relationships grave
An evil grin disrupts the actions and she says allowed, “Let’s play”
For she will not be the meek this time and she will not cave.
