Promises Broken

There is a saying that I once heard.
The saying was that promises were nothing but broken words.
Broken words that were all make believe,
I cannot believe you chose to deceive me.
I had hopes and I had many dreams
So, I guess reality is what it seems.
Promises are broken everyday.
But, yours was broken a special way.
I knew a little girl who wanted to be a vet.
All she wanted to do was to take care of pets.
Her mother once said, “You can be anything you want to be.”
But, her father didn’t want her to be able to see.
The little girl’s dreams and hopes were shattered.
While her life was beginning to become battered.
Mom, you broke a promise that you couldn’t keep.
Promises are nothing but words so cheap.
Dad, you said you wouldn’t leave and that you would be here.
Now down my cheek run many tears.
How can you sit here with promises broken?
Leaving me with all my words unspoken.
I know that work separates us,
And I guess that’s why we always fuss.
This little girl’s world is a living hell,
Only because her life has been a show and tell.
In and out people leave her life.
All it causes is a whole lot of strife.
FYI this little girl was once me,
In my own little world that no one can see.
How many little girls can this relate to?
Was this little girl once you?
