Ripe For Betrayal

You say I’m your everything
And you say I mean a lot.
Yet whenever something great occurs,
It seems I’ve been forgot.

Always you leave me out,
Even though you try to fib.
It seems with all your fabrications,
You’ve gotten oh so glib.

All my contributions
Add up to nothing in your eyes.
And when I lash out at you,
You look to me surprised.

I’m fed up with you
And having to support your pathetic attempt
At your dream life.
So now I want to be exempt

From your cruel controls.
Ask for my help,
Then stab me in the back.
When I cry out and yelp,

You scream at me
To shut up, dear.
I stand to you
And face my fear.

Instead of stabbing my back
Again and again,
Instead of you ignoring me and my songs
I say goodbye, my friend.

I hope you crash and burn
Then back to me you’ll crawl.
But I’ll ignore and laugh
At your glorious downfall.
