Floating Face Down

Can you save me?
Protect me from the unclean?
It’s not really possible.
I know of things unseen.
You live in the Darkness of Night
While I float face down in a lake.
We’ll never see each other.
Our lives we will forsake.

I’m laying face down
Floating in this stream,
Hoping one fine day
To awaken from this dream.
But it’s my life I live;
Caught up in the tide.
And I know I’ll keep fighting
Even well after I’ve died.

And when I dream at first it’s nice;
Nothing’s wrong with me.
That’s how I know the dream
From reality.
Nothing will ever let me be happy.
Everyone suffers in turn.
But it seems in the short time of my life,
My pain is all unearned.
So I’ll float face down in this world today,
Not the perfect image, no.
Let the tide carry me away
To where you’ll never go.

I’m laying face down
Floating in this stream,
Hoping one fine day
To awaken from this dream.
But it’s my life I live;
Caught up in the tide.
And I know I’ll keep fighting
Even well after I’ve died.
