Slow and unsure she moves
His smile coaxing her from across the room
Unbeknownst his discomfort grows
It doesn't show
Shoes first, she doesn't know
White lace about her ankles
Blue t-shirt momentarily hides her face
She blushes and remembers always breathe
The trail unexplored, his eyes lead
Gentle curve of belly, untoned
Homefed and homegrown
Silken flowered cotton flows from shoulders to carpet
Nervous fingers undo a button
Zipper down, undoing silence, sudden
A cascade of denim down sun-bare falls
One step to the side
Childhood's last call
French-tipped fingers ease aside black lace
Snug down hips, to a warmer place
A child's eyes reach up to this man
Blue and wondrous as the skies
And tears fall like raindrops, innocence gone awry
He takes a blanket in his hands
And spreads it wide, her promised land
Unsteady and shy she crosses to his side
As he wraps it around her, warming what's been bared
Her head falls heavily to his chest, guilt holding her in place
And he lifts her sweetly to his arms, and calls her sobs to ease
His kisses on her teardrops and confusion bring swift sleep
And he rocks her gently to and fro
His beautiful girl, Marie
