A Sonnet About A Nightingale

An ebony sheen, she winks her crystalline eyes
She coos and croons the nubile mothers in their den
She soothes and makes her place in the heart of men
Loving the Leo, advising the Gemini, she tapers lies
Silently perched in the protective arms of a willow
Spreading her wings to the call of the moon
But she can not escape the oncoming loon
The adversary that chases her away from her nightly pillow.

A night without stars
A face off near mountains steep
Her skin is marred
Slipping into a requiem, her soul she no longer keeps
but now, at day break she stands to guard her territory once barred
And when the noise begins, she is calm, and falls asleep.
