I'm Sorry

I’m going to capture your radiance in a bottle
Tied around my neck
So I’d never feel cold
A slight tingling warmth over coming my weak body
As the tears stain the notes from our past lives

Moving on is so incredibly easier said than done
And when you’re sobbing into your pillow
It’s difficult to say

I’ll wait for you now
For a change of your mind
Maybe you’ll flutter back to me and heal these infinite wounds

I’m sorry for what I did wrong
Although I’m not quite certain what that was
But I hope you always know
That I’m sorry
I’m sorry

If I got to close on those cold nights
I was just trying to keep you warm
But I guess I never though that you’d always be in need of space
I’m sorry that I didn’t ask

If you needed me to be there more
Support you more than I did
I’m sorry, I didn’t know how to do so anymore than I was
I was there at all of your games
I called you promptly at six every night
I brought you soup when you were sick
Your clothes were mended regularly
And even more regular was the phrase
‘I love you
Forever and ever’
Escaping from my lips

If I didn’t impress your parents enough, I’m sorry
Let me try again
Next time, I’ll wear my own gown of silver
Threaded with my own bleeding hands
I’ll be a proper woman to the T
If you need
I’ll remember all the uses for all the different forks
I’ll laugh in the right spots, even when it isn’t funny and I just want to
cry instead
I’ll make sure my grammar is perfect, just so they know that I’m well
Educated
I’ll compliment your mom on her terrible cooking
I’ll tell her it’s the best that I’ve ever eaten
And I’ll ask for more
But I won’t tell her that I’m probably going to be throwing it up hours
later during the brink of morning
I’ll tell your dad what a gentlemen you are
And smile as he beams
But I won’t tell him about the time that you left me standing on the corner
When it was snowing
Because you forgot to pick me up
You were out with your friends
Drinking
The friends who tell you to ditch me
Because I’m not good enough
For you

If I wasn’t smart enough I’m sorry
I’ll memorize the encyclopedia next time
And I’ll know the exact definition for panacea
And I’ll talk about world war two
And human evolution too
I’ll tell stories about Charles Darwin
And the exact process of creating a time bomb

I’m sorry for anything I did wrong
Please forgive me
