The Possibility Of A Fork

I am so scared.
I feel for him
with my whole heart.
My mind plays no
tricks;
this is reality.

Whatever happens,
happens.
We'll take the path
until it forks.
I hear
there is a
meant-to-be
in life.
Do you believe it?

When I kiss him,
I kiss him with
all of me.
I tremble,
and I smile
and hold myself
to his heart
each time.

He says he won't care
and he won't cry
and he won't hurt
should our path
fork.
Secretly I smile,
and secretly I care.
But secretly I wonder
what sense this all
makes.

He tells me
not to think about it.
What we have
is what we have.
Thought will only
complicate it.
But I'm still scared.
I think maybe,
I haven't felt like this before.
I hope maybe,
we'll miss that fork.
