It seemed like yesterday as I gazed upon
A black and white photo in and old family album
Of a baby being held by her mom
While Dad stood proudly by her side
This firstborn child with piercing hazel eyes
Inquisitively scanning her surroundings
Her tiny face reflected a glow of contentment
As time passed she grew into a Flower
That blossomed much faster than the others
For the world seemed to be slipping by
Much faster than her pace
But always manages to stay ahead of the game
Born to life to its fullest
Born to be free
Born to test the limitations of life
Born to soar where eagles dare to fly
Earth was her testing ground of fate
And so she explored
She ventured
Sometimes she wins
Sometimes she loses
But it is the same old deck of cards
Played strategically each time
Dare not chain her by the shackles of your dream
Dare not entrap her with chains of bondage
Life challenges she embraced with boldness
Welcomes each failure as a lesson learned
An experience for future successful gained
Her family ticket to freedom
For she pulled them out of despair
To the great USA
The terrains held many unseen ditches and bumps
But she always managed to rise above them all
Come see a woman with medals that drapes her years
And medallions that hung in honor of achievements
Of conquering battles and jumping hurdles
Just to stay ahead of the game
And she did it!!
Way to go Nell!
