He sat at the edge of the bed
Frailed, unable to lift his legs or even stand
Sin ravaged body…
Coping with yesterdays bitter cup
Death imminent…
Like a thief that came to claims its own
He labored with each breath
Adorned with sores that identifies his plight
If only he could turn the hands of time back
That one-night stand would not be
A price to pay was more than he bargained for
Eyes that once filled with hope for tomorrow
Now reflects uncertainty for days ahead
Prison he had built for himself out of self-hate pity
Became his permanent domain
The sounds of wheeling carts
Sight of blood-filled tubes
Probed and pricked by nurses in white
Smiles that helped ease his aching heart
But not for long…
For the constant aching headaches
The upset stomach as he vomits the sin of shame
Gesture of love he welcomed with open heart
To help him through those days of depression
How beautiful his family album looks to him
As he looked upon his children’s face
Recalling days gone by
So much time now to meditate as he lay on his back
For there is no where to look but UP
Remembering the sounds of laughter
As it echoes through his mind
Mixed with pain and so much hurt of regrets
If he could only erase the agony of yesterday
How differently he would live his life
A wife that stuck through it all
Bearing the pain of his double-life
A lonely soul slowly makes his way down the hallway
To a road that leads to nowhere
Was more than he bargained for
For the woman he hurt for many years
Now entered his room with a message
That would for ever transformed his life
“It’s time Stan”
“Time is of the essence”
“Will you accept his free gift of salvation”
With tears streaming down his cheeks
A broken spirit now was lifted
Out of the murky waters of despair
Without hesitation, He cried “Yes I will!”
Led into the sinner’s pray a new man reborn
For now he truly understands the meaning of “new birth”
To be absence from the body is to be present with the Lord
As I looked upon this empty shell surrounded by family
I knew that this soul immediately was ushered to Heaven
To greet the one who died for him
No more days of
Pain
Sorrows
Heartaches
Discomfort
A new chapter begins…
