Don't Let Your Guard Down

Just when you thought all was well
And your good deeds were done
When you thought battle was ever
And rest has just begun

Just as you walk away
When you left the battle field of life
When you've forgiven all wrong-doers
And banished hate, malice, and strife

You thought you were safe
Free of all harm
But then someone new
Grasps you by the arm

Curious of the means
Suspicious of the purpose
He gives you all you've wanted
He brings you love and bliss

You grow to love him
Giving him your life and heart
And just when you thought it was safe
He tears everything apart

Curious of the means
Suspicious of the purpose
How could he hurt you
In such a way as this

You recount the past
And once again he takes your arm
How could you be so stupid
As to fall for his "charm?"

Now you're gone, done forever
For bringing down your guard
For trusting one you never knew
Instead of judging them to hard

So please take heed
From this simple story today
Don't trust just anyone
For your heart is precious, so don't just give it away
