“Down The Street To The Theatre”
Now I find my same old self
walking down this cold grey street
looking at the shops and peering in
to see what’s behind the windows
and I what see in a certain structure
penned behind the clear glass wall
makes me stop and gaze with wonder
there’s a girl I know behind the glass
she is beautiful beyond compare to anything
and her eyes sparkle like the moon at midnight
but next to her I see a big sign
and it breaks my heart but I know it’s best
that this girl I cannot posses
but I’ll leave my name and my number
and hope that I am kept sincerely in mind
and I leave this street…still alone
maybe a little worse for wear
or maybe I’m a little better
I can never put her out of my heart
but I can tell her that I have
and I can pull the curtain closed
put a quiet end to this first scene
and enter stage left as a friend who isn’t leaving
the curtain may never rise in this hall again
I know that that is the most real prediction
for I have seen this scene a thousand times
played out slowly over and over in my mind
and it always ends the same for my lead
no matter the plots many twists and turns
it always ends the same for me…….
