Fall Semester

as leaves fall
off winter trees
classes change
with the ringing
of a single, monotonous beast

and now I'm here with you
outside history class
listening to our history
and taking notes, as not to forget
our chemistry

and those long nights
between frightend days of October
passing through each class
just wishing past this fall semester
into a warmer, easier half
of my final year

what is gone, I'll never know
and what is to come
equally unsure
wishing back to that fall semester
where it all started

the bell rings
bringing with it a new time
a change of classes
another beginning to another end

so I kiss you goodbye
and head to my class
memories of you
still folded between the pages

crying softly
for the last bell to ring
sending me home
back into your arms

and tomorrow will bring
new memories the next day
wishing back to my October
where I could hide forever

away from time
in that painful memory
of a more beautiful, passionate
poetic emptiness

and fighting each change
with new educated vigor
wishing past that fall semester
where we can be forever

back in that time
when leaves fell
off winter trees
envoy of our fall semester
