Around Us The World May Be Ending, But We Still Only See Each Other

Up on stage, the bright lights flood your face
The hustle of the coffeehouse whirs around me
The atmosphere around gives me an eerie feeling of comfort
I sit alone, and have eyes only for you

Up on stage, your husky voice emerges
Croons words full of love
Your fingers move methodically to strum the guitar balanced on your leg
You sit alone, and have eyes only for me

Around me, the gentle hum of conversation is steady
Scholarly people in black turtlenecks and dark jeans sit around
Sipping latte's loaded with whipped cream
I am enamored, I see no one but you

As you sit in front of me, my heart fills to bursting
A dark curtain of hair falls across your eyes
A slight smile plays on your lips, a deep dimple dots your cheek
You are enamored, you see no one but me

Memories replay in my head
We lay together in a bed of all white sheets
Your twirl my hair in listlessly in your fingers
"One day I'm going to write a song about your beauty, written just
for you," you whisper in my ear

"It's going to make me famous," you say
"And then we'll live together forever."
Under sheets of white, we lay together entwined, skin to skin
And I can't keep the smile off my face

Your voice pulls me back to present
From the stage your eyes probe my thoughts
Sweet melodies and harmonies dance around my head
I close my eyes and bask in the warmth of the love you radiate

With one last stroke of a string the final note rings out
From up on stage you smile and I smile back
I am lost in your eyes, I still revel in the song that I know
Was written just for me
