I am fifteen
And I am different
I can leave in the mornings
Without makeup or
Designer jeans
Well adjusted is what they say
But really I’m just critical
These girls with shirts
Three sizes too small and
Slut-black eyeliner
Not for me

I am fifteen
And I am different
The parties don’t interest me
Sex lies and videotape
The alcohol and
Late night piercings under covers
Drum solos and
Backstage passes
Flashback fashion and
Take out dinner
At midnight

I am fifteen
And I am different
My mom does not offer me
A shot of what she’s drinking
In the bedroom with
My boyfriend
And my mind is my own
As is my life
Young and restless
Wouldn’t you know
I am fifteen
