“Dreams Confront The Sleeping Traveler”
Sitting shirtless silent at my desk
pen in hand as I brush hair from my eyes
the cool plastic like wood chills my hot skin
now the lids over my eyes become quite heavy
and I lay my head upon my desk while still in my chair
run my fingers slowly across my arm
my shirt in-between my skull and my desk
the sweet smell of cigarettes lingers on its fabric
lacking the energy I need to climb up the stairs
and sprawl upon the miles of my bed
but that cold mattress would give me no satisfaction
because the pillow opposite of mine would be empty
devoid of a lover that I long to discover
so I stay down here resting so pleasantly
twist the silver ring upon my index finger
the writing on my arm fading and hard to see
I’ll try to stay awake just a moment longer
maybe catch the sun as it climbs up the sky
and relieves the moon of his nightly duties
tonight was definitely better than just all right
and tomorrow promised me all its best
but right now I am feeling so so tired
cannot keep my heavy head above the ground
this pen has become like a brick or a stone
weighing me down down to where dreams lie
sitting shirtless silent at my desk
let out a yawn while I scratch my chest
there’s a cool breeze blowing from my left
and it makes my skin steam
now I let my head drift on down
and I let sleep claim my mind dream by dream
smell of cigarettes in my nose as I part with consciousness
laying shirtless silent upon my carpeted floor
I haven’t the energy to open a single door
and I cannot climb a single stair
so I fall where my worn out body wants to go
close my eyes that have seen so little yet much too much
thoughts of a long lost lover linger on my mind
but it’s dreams that are all I find
no matter where I wander in this world
dreams are all I find…….
