“A Tragically Painful Yet Hopeful Departure”
He has certainly been away a long while now
left the camp and didn’t announce a destination
nor did he leave a reason or at least his registration
search parties organized and town meetings assembled
there’s a man overboard he needs our help or he will drown
there’s a man overboard he needs our help or he will drown
saw footprints just on up a little ways beating down the trail
and then one young man who went out looking brought back his pail
still half rusted and a quarter filled with the days spring water
he has lost his supplies and we need to guide him lest he loses his way
such a prodigy should be forever tended to in his palace fortress of
solitude
but everyday the search hopes grow so much slimmer
and each hour the moral sinks just one inch deeper
there’s a man overboard and he’s paddling out to sea
there’s a man overboard and he’s paddling out to sea
just catch the last fleeting glimpse as he floats off to his nirvana
still hearing his song breathing down the empty corridors
the bass line sinks in and ripples through every surrounding wall
still feel his touch when you close your eyes and dream
and still see the life in his eyes when he opened them up to you
lowered himself down out off the side of this big shiny boat
made a makeshift raft out of his pride dreams and dignity
used up the last of his reserves just a couple long hard days ago
last saw him as he vanished into the sunset and the breathing tide
the final words he spoke were: “Ain’t it just about quittin’ time?”
there’s a man gone overboard and I think he found himself down there
there’s a man gone overboard and I think he found himself down there
trapped beneath all those cold dark murky ocean depths
he saw himself smiling for the first time and grinning back
and so he fixed up with himself and slowly drowned into those waters
there’s a man swimming out there in that clear green blue ocean
there’s a man finally content to be right where he is
there’s a man finally content to be right where he is………
