Simple Answer To A Simple Question

Hardly remembering your face
As your tears streamed from pain.
I wonder why I was chosen
Why you lost my brother instead.
I often scream at night
Wondering why I was born.
I feel a simple loss
A loss of love.

You sat me down
Stared straight into my eyes
Your tears filled with emotion
Opened my heart to love.
A gentle whisper from your lips
Changed my life forever.

My head fell to my hands
As the moisture ran deep.
"Why didn't you tell me?
Why didn't you say I wasn't meant to be?"
My brother knew
My mother knew
My father knew
My grandmother knew
Tis I, alone, in the shadows
Of this eternal lie.

A simple happening.
Miscarriage of an unborn child.
The child they should be loving
The child they should hold
The child who should love them as well.
I simply wasn't meant to be.
