To not think twice

I think it was I,
who failed to see what there is to see.
I'm foolish to expect so much of so little,
Could I have pretended it? Was it on me?

I assumed too much,
I was ignorant to the fact of death.
I knew no longer existing - existed,
Life's about getting shot the ONE time you don't wear the vest.

You have to take the card that is delt,
Or at least this is what I hear.
We all have our turn to live and die,
So take your chances and remember life's not fair.

If only this, if only that,
I should have called - visited one last time.
If I had the chance to tell her what I need to tell her,
things would be just fine...
