“Dreams That Are Not Mine”
I kiss your lips softly while laying on my couch
drinking in your scent and the way you make me feel
never have I seen eyes so deeply as I have yours
they grab my own eyes and hold on fast
it has only been one day since I saw you last
but that single day sucked all the life from me
run my hands south and smooth along your waist
feel you breath catch in your lungs as you smile at me
took my ring off of my index and I handed it to you
chained it around the necklace that I lent to you last year
and I still have that loose black shirt you gave to me
the things that you give to me out of love are all my favourite possessions
like your warm grasp upon my cold hands
when it sinks to straight to my core and brightens up my eyes a little
I want to lay here entranced and a little high with you
but more and more as I see you hanging around
with all of the people that I have come to know
I can so clearly see despite all of our similarities
these dreams they do not belong to me
but I like them more than I think that I should
so I bottle up all of these imaginations in jars without labels
I can tell what they are just by looking at them
I’ve got a whole shelf full of dreams that are not mine
no matter how hard I try I just don’t think
that convincing them to become a blissful reality is possible
but I guess that dreams are dreams and they are as sweet as can be
if I shut my eyes in the right way I can see you from far away
if I shut my eyes in the right way I can dream while I’m awake
see you walk in my door is a daydream that lost its way
and doesn’t cease when it is supposed to stop
but while I’m being totally honest I must say
given the opportunity I wouldn’t get in the way
I wouldn’t get in your way oh no
I would like to guide your way to wherever you want to go
yeah these are the dreams I wish were mine
yeah this is the dream I dream about at night
but unless my stars take a dramatic turn it will never be mine
unless my stars change their stripes you will never be mine…..
